A $950 discount turns this high-end Alienware gaming PC of yesterday into today’s bargain-

For the longest time RTX 3080 gaming PCs were hard to come by. They were especially hard to come by at anything close to resembling a good deal. But that’s all changed now, as retailers look actually shift stock of PCs with last-gen parts in them for much more reasonable prices.

This Alienware PC is a good example of those price cuts. While I don’t believe Alienware ever sold many of these for the listed MSRP of $2,449, and we certainly wouldn’t have recommended it at that price, this PC’s new sale price of $1,500 on Dell’s store makes it a much more appealing offer.

For that money you get yourself an eight-core CPU from AMD’s excellent Ryzen 5000-series, the Ryzen 7 5800X. That’s the same chip I have in my PC at home, and it’s a real all-round performer. It works g…

Don’t think of Avowed as Obsidian’s Skyrim but as a Fallout- New Vegas and Outer Worlds-style take on first-person fantasy, says the studio-

You’ve gotta feel for Avowed, Obsidian’s upcoming first-person fantasy RPG. As soon as the studio started talking about it, people (including, ah, me) began to look for pigeonholes to slot it into. A quick shorthand that would let us call the game “Obsidian’s take on X”.

The easiest reference point, of course, is Skyrim (Starfield without guns), to which Avowed’s fantasy setting, first-person combat, and classless character system have all invited comparison. But the studio doesn’t think it’s the right comparison, telling PCGamesN that you’re better off thinking of Avowed as an Outer Worlds-like, or even—be still my heart—something like Fallout: New Vegas.

Game director Carrie Patel said that, although it’s hard to escape Skyrim comparisons, “The model we’ve look…

Hunt- Showdown enjoys highest-ever player count after 1896 update, but player complaints about UI are pushing down its Steam review score- ‘I’ve never seen such a bizarre reaction to so much amazing content’-

Update 5 PM EST, August 16th: Crytek has commented on the community response to the game’s updated menu UI. Read more on this at the bottom of the page.

Grungy horror extraction shooter Hunt: Showdown just received its biggest update in years, with developer Crytek upgrading its engine, overhauling its UI, adding a fourth map called Mammon’s Gulch, and introducing other meaningful tweaks. It’s such an extensive rework that the game has even been given a new name—Hunt: Showdown 1896.

The first day of availability saw Hunt reach a new high for concurrent players: 59,968, which is 18,000 more than its previous high in October 2023. Likewise, at the time we’re publishing this, more than 51,000 are in-game, chasing and/or being immolated by the new Hellborn boss. Read more

Insanely ambitious Elder Scrolls remake Skyblivion shows off another reason it’s not releasing until 2025- refreshed dungeons with unique appearances for each region-

Every time the volunteer team behind Skyblivion, a fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, comes out with a new dev update, I make the same mistake. I figure, “I know what they’re all about, I’ve played Oblivion for a million hours, nothing here can surprise me.” Well color me surprised, the team’s latest development diary really got me going. Skyblivion is going to do things with Cyrodiil’s Ayleid ruins and Skyrim’s UI that have me giddy as a longtime Oblivion sicko.

The thing that consistently impresses me is how Skyblivion addresses one of the original game’s greatest weaknesses—its repetitive environments—while preserving the hazy, high fantasy daydream vibe that still has a hold on my psyche 18 years later. The new dev diary gives a peak of…

Indika publisher, Frostpunk dev to donate $50,000 to ‘support Ukrainian kids’ in wake of Russian missile strike on the country’s biggest children’s hospital-

Indika publisher 11 bit studios has announced that it is donating $50,000 of revenue generated by the game to support Ukrainian children, in the wake of a Russian missile attack which struck Kyiv’s Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital earlier this week.

A Polish publisher and developer behind games like Frostpunk, This War of Mine, and The Alters, 11 bit announced via Instagram that “The recent abhorrent attack on the children’s hospital in Kyiv by Russian military forces shook us to our core.”

Having previously announced that it would donate a portion of the revenue generated by Indika to children affected by the war in Ukraine, the studio “knew the time to act was now.” $50,000 will go to the Liberty Ukraine Foundation “to support Ukrainian kids receiving treatme…

Modders use AI to give Skyrim’s Dragonborn the voice of Master Chief, and I am once again asking if this is actually legal-

Skyrim can feel pretty long in the tooth these days. Although the game gets re-released once every four months, it originally came out in 2011, and there are plenty of design quirks lurking in its Gamebryo frame that can make it hard to get into if you’re used to modern, lavish productions.

Take, for example, the silent protagonist. Wouldn’t it be better if we could hear the Dragonborn inflect and emote? Wouldn’t it be better if classic lines like “On second thought, never mind” were delivered with the full range of the human larynx? Wouldn’t it be better if the game were literally voiced by Master Chief from Halo?

Well, dreams do come true, because thanks to the questionable power of AI voice generation, modders have been hard at work asking if they ‘can’ and not if they ‘s…

Monster Hunter fans are excited because a big farting ape is returning for Monster Hunter Wilds

A livestream from Capcom at Tokyo Game Show has confirmed that big farting ape Congalala is returning to the Monster Hunter series for Monster Hunter Wilds, the upcoming main-line release in the venerable series about skinning dragons and turning them into pants. It’s quite the return for Congalala, who first debuted in Monster Hunter 2 back in 2006. Also, it’s me. I’m Monster Hunter Fans and I’m excited for the poo monkey.

The monster is famous for being fond of mushrooms, and, especially, for releasing a large cloud of toxic gas mid-fight via weaponized flatulence. Exceptionally hardcore Congalala variants over the years have been able to release farts so powerful that they are classified as “dragon strength wind.” I’m not joking. You can go check the wiki if you want.

The first fan-made story for gloomy psych-horror Amnesia- The Bunker is, of course, a Doom mod-

Amnesia: The Bunker—the latest in Frictional’s string of psychological horror games—is excellent. Set during the First World War, the immersive sim-esque entry in the series wedded gameplay and theme perfectly: The sheer pointless horror of one of the greatest inter-imperial wars in history laid bare as you navigated an ink-black charnel house pursued by creatures dread and unknowable. It was a real bummer, basically. It did not shred at all.

Well fie to that, I say. Let’s get some electric guitars in here and zhuzh things up a bit. Thankfully, the hard work’s already been done. The game’s been out for a little over a month now, so someone’s naturally gone and built Doom in it. It’s the game’s first custom story, in fact, at least on the Steam Workshop, provin…
